5 GO MAD IN MILTON KEYNES!! by Bob Monkhouse
It was a cold and wet windy Wednesday in the middle of November that we were all to meet up at Xscape at 12 noon. True to form Paul, Brendan and Rob were all late (good job we were booked in for 1 O’clock.) Poor old Ted arrived early and was hanging around looking for the one-legged bike gang flying up and down the slopes. After stuffing our faces with McDonalds off we set to find Stuart Robinson (the Development manager and our liaison) once kitted out with boots and bobs we were ready to take on the world.

The skibobs were the new Brenter C4 which are very light and very bouncy and very yellow. The clock was ticking and we had only 1 hour and 45 minutes left to have fun!!
The first challenge was to have a go on the rolling carpet that took you to the top of the training slope. 5 minutes later and we are at the top ready lets go. 30 seconds and we are at the bottom with one of the staff telling us that side is only used for lessons and can we please use the middle or the left hand side runs. Ok the next problem was how are the guys without their legs on going to manage the button lifts? Out came several lengths of webbing straps. After securing one end of the strap to the bobs handlebars the free end was passed round the pommel and wrapped round the handle bars and then it was sit back wait for the snatch and enjoy the ride to the top, remembering to be ready to let the loose end go at the top or you were going to be coming back down dangling from the roof!! With several falls or missed pommels we had it off to a tee after ½ an hour. We had now got use to the bobs and so it was pose time, coming down the slope two a breast and with the shout turn we all turned one way and then the other in formation it looked good and several skiers were quite impressed with the boys. Then we were off to the snowboard jumps to get some air and the action shots. I must admit I think I was the only one to fall off on the jumps and that was to the fact I was mucking about a bit and the snow is wet and very cold when you end up face down in it.

Our two hours were up and it was time to depart from our winter wonderland of fun. In the observers lounge with a hot cup of coffee inside of us it was decided we would have to do this again. Our thanks must go to Stuart Robinson and his staff for all there help and it was £25 well spent. (That was for everything hire of the bobs, boots and foot skis) The worst bit was yet to come as all the shops in the complex were shouting out for us to go and spend our money on the latest fashion and accessories for the coming winter season.
If anyone is interested in going to the snow dome contact Paul Burns at p.burns@ntlworld.com and I’m sure he will let you know the next time we are going.
